| Majora's Mask
Returning from his time travel adventures, young Link rode home on the back of his trusty (and equally young) horse, Epona. As he cautiously made his way through the foggy, dark woods, two fairies appeared out of nowhere. Startled by the quick-moving, glowing creatures, Epona reared up and sent Link flying to the ground. As Link lay unconscious, a third stranger appeared out of the mist: a mask-wearing imp by the name of Skull Kid. Looking for valuables, Skull Kid soon found Link's Ocarina of Time, took it, and tried to escape on Epona. Link of course quickly followed and soon came upon a doorway in a large tree. He slowly stepped inside -- and fell into a bottomless pit that transported him into a weird, yet oddly familiar world full of familiar faces. But while the landscape may have looked familiar, one thing was clearly different: In the sky above loomed a gigantic moon, slowly falling down onto this world... "In a few more days, this world will end." So spoke those living there. Even as they waited, time passed mercilessly. "If you can find the masked one, you may find a clue to saving this realm." And so Link embarked on a new adventure to halt the setting of the moon on this strange world and to find his way back to his own land. Zelda: Majora's Mask is the sequel to Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and in fact takes place directly after Link's first adventure on N64. After Link stumbles into this mirror world, he discovers that world is in danger of being destroyed by the moon. Link has to find Stalkid, who stole Link's horse and Ocarina of Time, in order to save the world. Throughout the game, Link will come into contact with people that he knows like Talon, Malon, and Zelda. But, things are just slightly different from what he remembers. Malon now runs a Milk Bar, and the Old Witches run a potion shop in the swamp. Time is a big factor in this game. As mentioned before you have three days to find Skull Kid, get the Ocarina of Time back and then do what the Mask Maker asks you to do in order to save the world from the Moon. The time goes like this ; every 12 minutes of game time equals a day. Once you have completed major tasks such as retrieving a mask or beating a dungeon then you can play the Ocarina of Time, which saves the game, and starts you back on day one. You can watch people perform their daily routines of getting up and going to the market and such. But that would be a waste of your precious time. Another difference to note is that when you were in town or the market in Ocarina of Time, time would stop. Don't expect the same thing to happen in Majora's Mask. Time only stops when you are on the menu screen or talking to other characters. Another great feature of the game is that the masks that Link wears actually transform him into the creature of the mask. There are three main masks in the game: Deku mask, Goron mask, and a Zora mask. In Link's first encounter with Skull Kid, he gets transformed into a Deku. Unfortunately he can't just remove the mask, so he has to find Skull Kid in order to reverse the transformation. With each mask also come new powers for Link to explore. I have seen a pig mask and a great fairy mask from the screenshots in ourscreenshot gallery. More information on the other masls can be found below. Deku Mask: When Link wears this mask, he looks just like the Deku's from The Ocarina of Time. He can hop around like the Deku and shoot bubbles from his snout. Also, Link will be able to walk on water for a limited time and can shoot out of special flowers throughout the game that allow Link to "fly" and glide to hard to reach places. Goron Mask: Link can turn into the rock eating Gorons when he wears this mask. As with the other masks, Link inherits powers from the Goron creature. The first power is the ablity to roll up into a ball and roll across the land just like the Gorons from Ocarina of Time. Also, Link will be able to smash large boulders when wearing this mask, giving him access to new areas. Zora Mask: The last mask in the game will turn Link into a Zora. I think this is the best mask of them all. Link will have the ability to swim underwater at great speeds. Visit the MASK section for more info on the masks. Along with the powers that Link gains while wearing these masks, he will also have access to various new instruments. The Deku has a horn, the Goron, a set of drums, and the Zora has a lute made from fish bones. There are other masks in the game but they do not turn you into the creature on the mask. But, these masks do also give you different abilities. Pretty much all of the same weapons and items are returning to Majora's Mask. You still have the hookshot, lens of truth, bombs, and deku sticks. Some of the new items that I have heard mentioned include a dagger that can turn into a double-bladed sword as well as Young Link being able to use the bow and arrows. Also there will be new feature camera called a Pictograph, that lets you take pictures that you can enter into an in-game photo contest and the a notebook for Link to keep track of all of the people he meets and items they give him. As far as graphics go, expect a lot more. Majora's Mask uses the 4MB Expansion Memory pack so that the world of Hyrule can be expanded. You will see swamps, snow, more trees and other obstacles as well as more creatures to fight at one time. Expect a lot more detail to buildings and backgrounds as you wander the land in search of Stalkid. This game may be similar to Ocarina of Time, but you can tell that things have been greatly enhanced. To learn about the items available in the game click HERE |
