Part one: The Capture

The young girl gasped and looked around. There was  nothing but the sound of the shower water running. She was sure she had heard  something. She had been hearing someone follow her for days.
"Maybe I'm being stalked or something." She thought.  "Or maybe I've just been watching Scream too much." She slipped of her towel and  went in the shower.
She was washing her hair when suddenly she froze.  There was a shadow against the shower curtain. She was too afraid to move. The  normally brave red headed and tanned skinned girl was frozen with terror. Her  foster parents were out at a party and she was alone.
Gilane - that was her name - slowly moved towards the  shower curtain, reaching for it with one hand, and the towel with the other.
She grabbed the towel and ripped the curtain across,  ready to run... then froze.
A huge man with red hair stood in front of her. He  looked fairly old, and he was... green. He was talking to her.
"I said I would get revenge, and now is the time." He  said. "And I will get it through you. Come my daughter, you have much training  ahead." He held out his hand and a bright blue-white portal appeared behind.
"WHAT? I'm not going with you, you - you green  FREAK!" She screamed, then ran. Gilane was down the hall and in the kitchen when  suddenly he was in front of her.
Gilane backed up, but the huge man was there, too. He  grabbed her, and dragged her screaming through the portal.
***
A pink light flashed and A young man and woman was  there. The woman looked at the now fading portal and sighed.
"We're too late, Link."
"No Zelda. We are going to get that kid." And Link  dived through.
"Oh dear." Sighed Zelda, and faded away.
***
In the valley of the Gerudoes, Gilane and Nabooru sat  talking.
"Well, since Gannondorf's broken free from the sacred  realm, that would technically mean he's more powerful than me" Nabooru  explained. "So I pretty much have to do whatever he want's. And I'm supposed to  train you to kill Link."
"Who's Link?" Asked Gilane, now decked out in gerudo  clothes.
"A real cutie. He's probably the nicest man in the  world, and he and Zelda hurt your father last time."
"I don't want to kill anyone!" Gilane yelled.
"Don't worry, Gil." Nabooru told her. "You’re looking  at the best thief in the land. I'll get you out. Tonight."
***
Immediately after Nabooru said these words, an orange  light surrounded her. Then she disappeared.
"Wha-" Gilane gasped. "Where'd she go? Oh Jeez..."
"Gilane!" A call came from outside.
"Oh, Lord, not again." She muttered.
Gannon strode in, followed by a beautiful young  Gerudo. Not much older than Gilane herself.
"It's time for a trip to the training grounds." Said  Gannon. "Kimbawa will be your guide." He looked around. "Where is Nabooru?"
"She... had to... do something." Gilane said lamely.
Gannon shrugged and walked away.
Kimbawa looked at the shivering young girl.  Gerudo? She thought. Try a lamb.
"Come on" She sighed.
***
While this was happening, Nabooru was in the chamber  of the sages. All were there... and Zelda!
"What took you so long?" Demanded Ruto. "I for one  don't plan on staying here all day!"
"What's going on, Zelda?" Nabooru asked.
"It's Link!" She burst out. "I can't find him  anywhere!"
"WHAT?!"
"We were after that girl... you know.. The  one! And Gannon came! He dragged the child screaming into the portal, and  Link dived after them. I can’t find him!"
Saria was shocked. Oh no! She thought. If  Link's gone... she shuddered.
"I'll check the Valley." Nabooru said. "Meanwhile, we  have to get the kid out. I told her to be ready tonight!"
"I will meet the child on the bridge." Impa said  quietly. "Midnight."
And she disappeared.
"Ok. Midnight." And the others left too.
***
Gilane was tired. She lay on the ground outside the  training centre panting. Kimbawa shook her head.
"Be TOUGH girl. It was only a Stalfos."

"Only? Only?? That thing nearly KILLED me!"

Why me? asked Kimbawa as she stalked off.
Nabooru was worried. She had searched everywhere.  Link was no where. But what if... She ran to the Haunted Wasteland.
"Link? Are you down there?" Nabooru called. No  answer. She jumped down into the stone hut thing in the desert. No one. She  sighed, and heard a wolf howl.

Midnight...
"Oh, Din!" She swore, and raced back to the Fortress.
"Ok kid, this is where I leave you.” Nabooru  whispered. “Impa will be here soon. I’ll see you again someday. Good  luck.”
“Who’s Impa...” Started Gilane. But Nabooru was  already gone.
Gilane shivered. She was stuck in a strange world  with strange people, and a crazy green guy who said he was her father. “Oh, I  wanna go home!” She huffed.
***
Suddenly, she heard a noise. A huge woman fell from  the sky.
“AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Gilane  screamed.
“Quiet, child. I am Impa. Do you want to alert the  guards?” The big woman said.
“I- I- I-” Gilane stuttered.
“WHAT’S GOING ON?” Came a female voice. Suddenly  Kimbawa came around the corner holding a spear.
“Gilane? What the-”
“Please don’t tell Gannon, Kim!” Gilane  cried.
“Well... I could get in a lot of  trouble...”
“PLEASE?”
“Oh, all right.” Kimbawa finally said. “But  hurry!”
***
“What’s happening?” Came the voice of  Gannondorf.
“Hold on, kid.” said Impa and dived head first;  holding onto Gilane; of the bridge.
Gilane screamed all the way down, but before they hit  the water, they disappeared.

***

Where am I? Thought Link. He was in a dark place. He was in the desert.  Then he was in a room. He saw a light, then he heard a voice.
“Link? Are you down there?” A pause.
Then he saw Nabooru. She jumped into the  room.
“Nabooru!” He yelled.
She seemed to remember something, and rushed out the  door. Link tried to follow, but he was stuck. I’m was in the wall, he  realised.
Gannondorf appeared in front of him.
“Well, well, well.” He smirked. “Couldn’t get the  attention of your friend?”
“What do you want?” Link asked.
“Revenge.” He answered. “Now, I am not an uncivilised  man. I will allow you a chance to escape. If you can call your little sage  friends to come find you, I will let you go. But only if they can beat  me.”
“Fine by me.” Link answered, glaring at the giant  creature who had killed his mother, all those years ago.

“Oh, damn!” said Link. When Gannon had said  find he thought he had meant hidden in the fortress. Link could get out  of anywhere in there.
But here he was. In the giant pyramid in the  wasteland, surrounded by hundreds of sleeping monsters. With no weapons.
***
“Um... where am I?” Asked Gilane. Looking around at  the dark place, with the greenish grey river running through it.
“The shadow temple.” Replied Impa.
“Oh. Why?”
“Because no one comes to the graveyard, so you’ll be  fairly safe.”
“The Graveyard?” Gilane screeched.

“I know. Tacky isn’t it?” said a new  voice.
Gilane looked around. She saw the strange owner of  the voice. It was a pretty blue creature with fins everywhere.
“I am Princess Ruto, princess of the Zora’s.” Ruto  offered.
“Oh. I’m Gilane... your Highness.” Gilane answered,  trying to bow.
“Now that’s what I like. Some respect!”
“Oh, Ruto. Stop showing off.” Said a lovely teenager  girl with green hair, coming into the room.
“Call me Ruto,” Ruto grinned. “So what did you call  me for?” She asked Impa.
“The child needs swimming instructions.” Impa  replied. “You know, Long shot, attacks, Iron boots.”
“Oh, uh well you don’t have any water.” Ruto said  quickly.
Impa looked at the river.
“No! NO! I will not swim in the river of the  dead.”
“Oh you’ll be fine.” And that was the end of  it.
***
Saria looked around as she walked. What a creepy  temple. She thought. She walked through a door and walked through some  twists in the passage, and realised how different it was from her own temple,  and how sorry she felt for Impa. She has to live here, with the dead, thought  Saria, as she passed a Zombie. She stopped suddenly, and a sharp blade came  down where she was about to step. The song was what caused her to  stop.

Her song. Their song.
“Link” He heard her ask asked.
“You should be more careful where you step.” He  replied quietly, grinning. He knew this would work.
“Idiot” Saria giggled. “Where are you? Zelda’s  almost hysterical, and I’m worried!”
“Well, ah. You know how I told you about that pyramid  in the desert that I can’t get to?”
“Yes...”
“Well I’m there.”
***
“He’s where?” Cried Zelda. “We have to get  him!” She began to fade.
“Zelda, no!” Yelled Nabooru.
“She is right, Zelda.” Said Rauru quietly. “He is  surrounded by monsters, and is unarmed.”
“We must make strategy” said Darunia.
“I agree.” Said Saria. “If we barge in he’ll be  killed. Now, first we find out how to get there, then we explore the pyramid for  the way in. Then we...” She stopped.
“What are you all looking at?
“Um, Saria.” Said Nabooru quietly. “Where did all  this come from?”
“Huh?”
“She means your normally a shy little thing, and now  you’re a war general. Spill!” Ruto explained”
“Ruto, my best friend is in trouble, and I want to  help him. Especially now that I am allowed to leave the forest.”
Gilane sat watching
“I still don’t know why you gave up immortality!”  Said Ruto.
“I wanted to grow up.” Replied Saria.
“But a Hyian...”
“It was the only way.”
“Let’s get back to business, people.” Intervened  Rauru.
“All right. What we do is this...” Said  Saria

Child of Destiny
Part Two: The Rescue

Link was tired. He was sick. He had  been in this… this pyramid for nearly two weeks. He could see the moon through a  small window, way up high in the room.
It was a strange sort of temple, he  thought weakly.

It had a river running through one  corner, exiting the temple with no grate or anything. If only Morpha wasn’t in  front of it.

It was amazing really. The temple had  six sections to it – still in the one room – and each section had a dungeon boss  in front of it - with one extra boss in front of an altar - sleeping.

Link shuddered, and repressed a  groan.
Even if the Sages DO get  here, it’ll be too late. He thought. I haven’t eaten for ages and I feel  so…

Then he fainted onto the  floor.

***

The Sages were exhausted. They had  been in the desert for a week, trying to reach the pyramid, but it was no use.  Gilane sat next to her friend Ruto, who was in definite need of water. She lay  there hardly moving, groaning. Even though she was a Sage, she was still half  fish.

Gilane suddenly lurched forward, and  the world went black.

***

“What the…” Cried Nabooru, and raced  to Gilane’s side.
“Gil?” She cried. “Gil, wake  up!”
“Let me handle this” Said Impa  softly.
“Link, what’s wrong?” She asked, much  to everyone’s surprise.

“Impa?” Spoke Link’s voice through  Gilane’s lips. “What’s … Where… Where are you?” He asked.
“We are on the other side of the  quicksand between the desert and the pyramid.” She reported.
“We have the child, but she just  fainted, now you can talk through her. What is happening?”
“Well, I don’t really know.” He  admitted. “I think I might have fainted a few minutes ago but…”
“That’s IT!” Saria cried.
“I think I am beginning to see.” Said  Impa. “Link, we’ll be there soon.”
“Wait, Impa, you should  know…”

Then Gilane woke up, and they all  stared at her.
“What?” She asked. Why are they  all staring? She glanced down at Ruto.
“She needs water.” She said. No one  moved.
“She needs water.” Gilane  repeated. “Will someone go and get… a lot? Or at least
take Ruto to a lake, or oasis or  something!”
Zelda lifted the Ocarina of Time to  her lips when Rauru stopped her.
“Why do YOU not get her some, child?”  Rauru suggested softly.
“Because I don’t know where anything  IS in this land!”
“He does not mean like that, little  sister.” Darunia stated.
“Then how…” She began. Then it came  to her. “Oh, I know! It’s what Ganon was talking about. Some sort of ‘magical  powers’ well, I’ll tell you something. I am NOT magical, I am NOT Ganon’s  daughter, and I am sick and tired of every one treating me like some sort of  strange person! Now, I’ll try again. My friend needs some water, and she needs  it NOW!”

***

Water began shooting out of the  finger she was pointing at Ruto and covered her.
Ruto slowly sat up and coughed. Then  she slowly sat up, coughed, then looked at the water pouring out of Gilane’s  finger and froze.

Oh my gods! Ruto  thought. She’s magic! Even Zelda can’t do that!

“Wait a minute, Gil.” She began  slowly. “If you can do that, can you make a bride over that sand?”
“Well I don’t know.” Gilane said  slowly, still staring at her hand. “I feel like I could do anything, even make  that bri…”
“COME OUT!” Yelled Nabooru suddenly,  running to a nearby pole and pulling a struggling Kimbawa out.
“Hey, Nabooru, lay off!” She cried.  “I was just making sure that Gilane is all right!”
“Leave her alone, Nab.” Gilane said  softly. “She’s telling the truth.”
“I just want to help.” Kimbawa  stated. “And to prove it, I’ll help you get across to that there  pyramid!”
“How would YOU know?” Nabooru  scoffed. “I’m second in command and I don’t know.”
“That’s because you didn’t help take  that forest boy there.”

***

“Well, let’s go.” Kimbawa said,  heading off in the direction of the colossus.
“Um, Kim… that’s the way to where I  live.” Nabooru stated gently.
“Yes, but there is a secret portal  there!”
“Huh?”
“You’ll see.” Kimbawa said  mysteriously.

“Well, we are here.” Said  Impa.

Yeah, but where IS here?  Thought Gilane.
You’re telling me! Said  a male voice inside her mind. So, how close are  you?
Wha- she  started
Oh, they didn’t tell  you.
Tell me  what?
We seem to have a psychic  bond, and-
Uh, excuse me, what are you  talking about?
You’re human, I thought you  knew all about this stuff!
I don’t watch much  TV.
TV?
Never  mind.
Well, my name is Link. Pleased to  me-

The voice cut off, and Gilane lurched  again, and fell flat on her face in the sand.

***

“LINK!” Cried Zelda and Saria in  unison.
“Would SOMEBODY like to inform me on  what’s going on?” Ruto pleaded. “You all know something, and I  don’t.”
“Forget it, Ruto.” Nabooru sighed.  “It’s so complicated that I don’t get it!”
“Fine! I’ll go get some water.” And  she stalked off to the oasis, and grabbed a fairy at the same time.

***

“Let me get this straight.” Zelda said  slowly. “Link is in your MIND?”
“Yes.” Gilane said impatiently. “Then  he said ‘pleased to me’ and cut of. Then I fainted.”
“Link must have fainted. He’s sick.”  Said Saria, then she and Zelda began crying.
“Oh, come on.” Gilane said  sympathetically. “He can’t be THAT much of a stud muffin!” Zelda and Saria  looked confused. “Never mind. Now are we gonna save that guy, or  not?”

***

Kim stared at the scene. She had been  worried sick. She was starting to really like Gil. If only I didn’t have to  betray her. She sighed.
“Come on. The portal is over here.”
And she led them to a big rock,  kicked it twice, and whistled a strange song, and the rock disappeared. A  glowing green portal was where the rock was, and she dived into it. The rest  followed, with Impa last. She had heard Kimbawa’s thoughts: If only I didn’t  have to… She shook her head. She wished she had caught that last  word.

It seemed important. She dived in,  the portal disappearing behind her, and the rock shimmered back into  view.

***

“Look, a river!” Cried Ruto. “I could  swim through and have a look.”
“A… forest?” Asked Saria. “I could  investigate.”
“A really high window!” Exclaimed  Zelda. “I could get in through there!”
“A lava waterfall, a bird statue  fallen over a ravine, a sun sign and a temple of time symbol.” Said Darunia  thoughtfully. “I begin to think that we were expected.”
“Yes.” Agreed Rauru. “But we have no idea what’s  inside.”

***

Link? Asked Gilane  slowly.

Yes… The voice  replied.

Uh… It’s Gilane.

Oh. How close are you?

We’re just outside, and it looks  really weird.

Well, what do you want to  know?

What’s inside? Like, um, are we going to get  killed if we just go in?

Yes.

Ok,  then.

She heard him  groan.

No, no, no! Don’t  faint!

“He’s gonna  faint!” She cried.

Impa reached  for her belt and drew out a fairy, and gave it to Gilane. She immediately felt  better.

Saria had  been talking to her fairy. She walked over and the fairy flew into the sky, and  came back with a brilliant blue fairy.

“Hello!” The  blue spark of light said. “My name is Vorena. Saria’s fairy said that you need  someone to help you stop fainting!”

“I’m Gilane.” She said, amused by the  beautiful spark. “Pleased to meet you!”

***

“Ok” Said  Zelda. “What now?”

“Well, I think we should do what we  planned. We can’t scout around and find an entrance, because there are so many.”  Saria replied. “Let’s get spiritual!”

The seven Sages each faded away and  were replaced by glowing balls of colour. They rose into the air and circled  around the pyramid, then they went for the window and…

CRASH! A bright blue flash of  electricity sparked briefly around the temple, then died away. The seven balls  of light fell to the ground and faded.
Gilane and Kimbawa ran over to find  the sages lying on their backs, groaning.

“Sage protection!” Groaned Nabooru,  trying to stand up.
“Ganon’s smarter then we thought.”  Replied Impa, helping her.
The sages were all standing by now,  looking tired.

“I think you should all go through  the entrances meant for you.” Said Kimbawa quietly.”
“But what if it’s a trap?” Asked  Darunia.
“I think you have to take that risk.”  She said.
“Where do I enter?” Asked  Gilane.
“Wherever you think you should.” Said  Kimbawa and faded away.

***

Link had seen the Sages. He had also  given up hope. He looked up to the point of the pyramid, and saw a hole,  surrounded by a rainbow of colour.

He glanced over to the river, and saw  a figure move through the entrance. It looked like… Ruto!
The high window… Sheik? Zelda!  Dressed as Sheik for some reason.
Impa was crossing the ravine, Nabooru  shone light on the sun symbol and a bridge fell. Saria was crossing through some  vines, Darunia dived through the lava-fall and Rauru played the song of time to  enter to the altar.

The doors slammed shut after them.  Glass covered each section, and the bosses woke up.

***

Farore! Swore Ruto, when she saw  Morpha rise, the heart splashing into the water. She sliced at it with her razor  sharp fin. Again and again, she dodged and slashed, getting picked up and flung  by five tentacles. She slammed into the glass, and saw Link, right in the middle  of the room, looking horrified. She gritted her teeth, turned around, and swiped  at the heart in front of her.

***

Impa was in trouble. She did not have  the lens on truth, the only way to defeat Bongo Bongo. She had been picked up,  flung, crushed and swiped too many times to count. She was getting tired. So  tired. She looked up weakly at the hand above her, Saw Zelda battling a giant  Spider, and Link watching her helplessly.
Take care, Link. You too  Zelda. She thought, as the hand came down for the last  time.

***

Gilane stood at the top of the pyramid,  and saw the sages fighting. She looked at the man in green in the centre of the  room, deciding he was the one to rescue. She floated down to him, and her heart  nearly stopped. He was gorgeous!
“Ha ha ha ha ha!” Came a deep voice  from behind her. She turned around, and there he was. The man who had pulled her  into the portal that night. Her Father. Ganondorf.
“Well done, my daughter.” He boomed.  “Your mother would be proud!”
My mother… she thought,  remembering a face, with flaming red hair and catlike yellow eyes.
“Now stop trying to save this foolish  boy, and these sages, and come with me.” He said. “We can rule the  world!”
Gilane was remembering her mother.  The day she was born, Ganon was there. He looked different… kind. They were  happy. Then all three of them were playing, her mother was… glowing? She  remember the necklace she always wore with her name on it.
Din…
“MOTHER!” She cried. “COME TO  ME!”
“NO!” cried Ganon.
“MOTHER!”
A red light appeared in the temple,  and all looked at it. The sages and monsters stopped fighting and stared. A  beautiful female dressed in red appeared beside Gilane.
Two more women, one in blue, the  other in green, appeared beside Link. Navi circled around him.

Vorena circled Gilane’s head like a  blue halo.
“Hello, Ganondorf.” Din said, her  voice echoing around the room.
“Din!” He said, shaking.
“What are you doing to our daughter?”  She asked, staring at him and putting an arm around Gilane.
“She… well… I thought we could…” He  stammered.
“Rule the world, and become a god?”  She said, not really asking.
“Something like that.” He  admitted.
“You know that is not allowed.” Said  the two women beside Link.
“You have done this too many times.”  Din said quietly. “I’m afraid we will have to stop you.” She had a regretful  note in her voice.
“No, you wouldn’t…” Ganon  started.
“I’m sorry.” Din whispered, and the  bolts of light, one red, one blue and one green, flew out and hit him in the  heart. He fell, and lay on the ground.
“I loved you.” He whispered to  Din.
And died.

***

They were in the graveyard in  Kakariko, opening the Royal tomb. Impa wasn’t royalty, but she had been helping  them since as long as they could remember. Princess Zelda was sobbing, and  almost all had tears in their eyes. Link was crying, and Gilane stood by him,  with an arm around his shoulder. Nabooru was whistling the Royal family’s tune  as Impa was laid down. The last Sheikah had died. Hyrule had lost it’s race of  protectors.

***

It was sunset, and the sages stood on  a hill. Link and Gilane were with them. The gods appeared in front of them.
“Are you ready?” Din asked her  daughter.
“Yes, I think so.” Gilane replied  nervously.
“So be it.” The three goddess’s  chanted and a white light encased her.
When it faded, Gilane was wearing a  beautiful white dress.
“Meet the goddess of Life.” The  Goddess’s chanted.

***

Link stared at her. She was the most  beautiful woman he had ever seen, but a goddess? He looked at Gilane and  grinned.
The Goddess of Life smiled at him,  then faded away.

THE END.
