Part 1: The Ruby of Westier by: DAB8387

Link was bored out of his mind. He had a fake smile on his face. He chatted idly with the Hylian next to him by the name of Kris. It was a dinner party at the Castle of Hyrule. Link couldn’t remember what they were celebrating; it was something about an annual fall party. Zelda had somehow convinced Link to come to the party against his will. Link turned his head and looked at Zelda pleadingly. She caught his glance’s meaning and slightly nodded her head. She stood up and tapped her glass. The light chatter ceased.

“I would like to thank you all for coming to the first night of the annual King Westier Fall Festival. We are honored by the presence of every dignitary and friend alike. I would like to begin the festivities with the tale of ‘The Ruby of Westier’,” she began, clearing her throat.

Link groaned quietly. Kris turned to look at Link, questioningly.

“Sorry, had some meat in my throat,” he said.

“The story of the Diamond of Westier starts a long time ago when Hyrule was smaller. King Westier was a kind and fair king. He kept evil out of Hyrule with his well-trained militia. However, King Westier was brainwashed by an evil magi master. His militia was brainwashed as well. Hyrule became a burning wasteland after the militia destroyed it. A fairy, however, from the Kokiri forest, came to help. Her name was Lingly and she was very brave. Through many a harrowing adventure, she saved King Westier and his men from the evil magi. If you want to know more about her adventures, then you can pay ten rupees to the storytellers in the market this evening during the festival. The thing that she discovered, however, is that the King and his men’s good spirits were stored in a beautiful ruby. The ruby is said that it can still store good will and spirits inside it.”

Link thought it was a nice story. It reminded him of his adventures long ago. Still, he was used to the story because he heard it every year. The audience applauded politely as was expected by custom. She walked around the table as the people began to disperse headed mainly for the festival. Zelda grabbed Link’s hand as the stole through a small archway in the back of the dining room. It led to the cool evening outside. The crickets chirruped. Zelda turned and looked at Link with her large, ocean blue eyes. She smiled at him. In one magical moment all other things seemed to fade away. Link and Zelda kissed. There was no other place Link wanted to be in that moment except in the arms of Zelda, their lips pressing together. Zelda smiled.

“I’ll be right back,” she whispered, as if trying not to disturb the almost complete silence. She slipped away as the darkness enveloped her.

Link was going to marry Zelda after they had spent so much time together in childhood. No one knew that Zelda and Link were in love. They were just known as good friends who spent a lot of time together. Their wedding would be a surprise.

All of a sudden, Link saw a light in the air. It was a glimmer in what seemed like a tree. He crept forward staying low.
